Changing Cassette - Mountain Bike Zen
Changing Cassette
Over time the cassette may become worn and you may need to replace this. Alternatively you may be upgrading your gears or using a lighter cassette to help reduce overall bike weight.
For this you will need a specialist tool - a chain whip. First remove your wheel from the bike. Use the chain whip to hold tension in a clockwise direction on the chain rings and use a wrench to remove the nut that holds the cassette in place you can then remove the cassette and replace. It is a good idea as with all parts to grease the axel and threads before replacing the cogs to prevent seizing so that when it is time to remove them again you can do so easily.
